The DUO behind the shack

After seven years of cutting side by side, Jo and Grant knew it was time to carve out a space of their own, a place where the trims are tight, the vibes are relaxed, and the door's always open to good people and great conversation. In 2025, The Barber Shack was born.

With the support of some incredible clients-turned-friends, they’ve made their mark in Tuckton, bringing beachside charm, classic cuts, and a little vinyl magic to the heart of the community.

Together, they’ve created more than just a barbershop — it’s a place to unwind, catch up, and leave feeling fresher than you walked in. Here's a little more about the faces behind the chairs...

Jo Hewett

Co-Founder

Jo is a passionate and skilled barber with 7 years experience in the trade. After spending 12 years as a chef, Jo decided to pursue a new path in barbering, where the opportunity to connect with people and craft unique styles became a true calling.

Originally from Somerset Jo enjoys the vibrant coastal lifestyle and Bournemouth by the sea, loves a good hike and a swim in the sea.

Jo thrives on the personal connections made through the art of barbering.

Grant Thomson

Co-Founder

Born in Newcastle raised in Glasgow, Grant brings a blend of northern grit and Scottish charm to every cut. After spending 12 years living in Australia Grant returned to the UK with a wealth of experience and a huge passion to embark on his barbering journey.

When Grant is not behind the chair you will find him immersed in music and collecting vinyl. Grant is an avid football fan following Newcastle his whole life. At home he's kept on his toes with his two cats Eddie and Joni 😊
